In short: use practice tests to find weak topics, not to memorize questions. Take one early as a baseline, study the topics where you scored lowest, and take another only after you have practiced those topics in a lab.
Many people treat practice tests like a question bank to memorize. Then the real exam asks the same idea in a different way, and they fail. Here is how to use them properly.
1. Take one at the very start
Before you study, take a free practice test. A low score is fine. The point is to see your score by topic, so you know where your time should go.
2. Read your score topic by topic
An overall score hides the detail. For example, on a CCNA test:
| Topic | Score | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Network fundamentals | 80% | Light review |
| IP connectivity | 33% | Main focus this week: OSPF and static routing labs |
| Security fundamentals | 50% | ACL labs |
Spend most of your time on the lowest two or three topics.
3. Learn the concept, then do the lab
For each weak topic:
- Read or watch the explanation once.
- Do it on a real system or simulator.
- Explain it in your own words (to a friend, or in a note).
If you cannot explain why the right answer is right, you have not learned it yet.
4. Do not retake the same test straight away
Retaking a test the same day measures memory, not skill. Wait until you have practiced your weak topics, then take a fresh one.
5. Practice under exam conditions near the end
In the last two weeks, take full-length mock exams with a timer, no notes and no breaks. This builds the stamina and time management you need on exam day.
6. Know when you are ready
A common rule of thumb: you are ready when you consistently score at least 10 points above the pass mark on different practice tests, and you can do the related labs without notes.

Frequently asked questions
Are practice test questions the same as the real exam?
No. Good practice tests cover the same topics and style, but real exam questions are confidential. Learn the concepts, not the questions.
How many practice tests should I take?
Usually three to five over your preparation: one at the start, one or two in the middle, and full mocks at the end.
Do the free practice tests show the correct answers?
Yes. After you submit, you see every question with the correct answer and a short explanation. These practice questions are written separately and are never part of an INFOTICS final exam.
